I have a strange irrepairable problem that I get from Firefox. I can run my computer all day long and operate any kind of program or software without an issue (that I know of) but when I try to watch YouTube videos in full screen, within 30 minutes to an hour, the graphics card will lock up so that I have to hit power or reset to reboot to get back up and running again. No error message appears upon reaching the desktop again. This won't happen if I use Chrome or Edge in full screen. I rather use Firefox, but YouTube is my preferred entertainment source.

I have reinstalled Firefox to no avail.

plugins: Shockwave flash is disabled Widevine enabled OpenH264 codec enabled

I have the latest version or all software, hardware, and bios. Windows 10 Home 64-bit AMD FX(tm)-6350 Six-Core Processor 16384MB RAM AMD Radeon (TM) R9 390 Series ASUS 970 Pro Gaming/Aura

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Sadly, there's no record of the crash. The last one was in June. So when it happens again, how can I figure out why it's happening?

Thank you for the replies and advice, I really want to use Firefox exclusively.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Start your Computer in safe mode. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?
