Firefox is running painfully slow... frequently hangs, even after uninstalling and reinstalling, refreshing, malware scans, etc.

As the question stated, firefox has been running painfully slow for the past few weeks... it was running fine, and then it suddenly slowed to a crawl. I also have Chrome and Internet Explorer, and they're working fine.

I have scanned for malware, using a few different tools, and all results were negative. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, removing my profile, using a new profile, removing it from appdata... still unusable.

One thing worth noting, perhaps. If I turn off my internet security program (I use Trend Micro Maximum Security), Firefox runs fine. I was able to quickly load it (normally it takes up to a minute to load), and quickly and easily go to a few websites that I know and trust... and it continues to work normally even after I run Trend Micro again. I don't know how long this lasts... I'm kinda nervous about not running antivirus software! Could there be a problem between TM and Firefox? They worked together fine until fairly recently.

Finally, I have not installed anything recently... and definitely nothing around the time that Firefox started running slow.

Thank you for whatever assistance I can get here! I would like to find a solution!

Hi   !
Speaking for myself only : I used to run anti-virus software,   but got rid of it,   as it was causing a lot of problems. Now I'm only using Windows Defender,   plus I'm using the safest browser on the planet   -     it's like being in Fort Knox   !

Would you take a look at this, please : http://tech.firstpost.com/news-analysis/ex-mozilla-firefox-developer-says-anti-virus-software-does-more-harm-than-good-359798.html

In addition : Should the problem return,   you could turn off the Multiprocess feature (e10s)   as follows :

Type in the address bar about:config (promise to be careful, if asked) Type and search for the preferences : browser.tabs.remote.autostart and set it's value to false browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 and set it's value to false

Note: the exact name of the preference may vary, but it will start with browser.tabs.remote.autostart

Check for updates to Trend Micro. And contact their support.

Security related software does unfortunately often cause problems. Sometimes it is just a case of setting up the other software to work properly with Firefox, or it may be a case of having to get the latest version of the security software.

Personally I have not noticed other reports of Trend Micro causing problems, but I have not yet tried to search for problems. I would not necessarily say it is I involved in problems, but we can try to help you, and we appreciate such reports.

If using Firefox with some common third party software makes problems for Firefox we are glad of the reports - Thank You - and need to look in to this.

FF 55.0.3 (64-bit) macOS 10.12.6 (16G29) Sierra has the Problem since about FF V. 47, and also in every update since then.

i7-Quad CPU highest load is almost always from FF. The fans are almost always running at abnormally high rpm. When FF is closed, all cools down.

in 2016 there was also a discussion that said since V53 the bug was removed (1139318). I still have the bug.

@Happy112 's suggestion did not help either.

Importing the json backup in the TorBrowser (7.0.5 (based on Mozilla Firefox 52.3.0) (64-bit), it complains that it cannot import the damaged file. TorBrowser is also slow with the successfull import of the html Backup.
