Firefox 50.1 Task Manager Memory over 1GB and growing!task manager memory
I've noticed that the browser becomes to get sluggish on me ever since the update to 50.1 on a Win 7 64-bit.
I open task manager and I see it growing and growing under the Memory column over 1GB and growing.
I gotta close the program and restart it. I only have like two or three open tabs, nothing major, just reading text sites without flash or video.
I also tried it without any plugins running, but the same issue. Memory just growing until the browsing become sluggish.
Like I said, I didn't have this issue before the update. Memory would stay around less than 300MB or perhaps less.

You do have quite a few add-ons, does Firefox behaviour improve in its safe mode
If that does help try disabling all extensions and making all plugins never activate then re-enable a few at a time to work out if one particular extension or pair of extensions is causing the problem.

Note use of a lot of memory is not always a bad thing especially if you have spare capacity and performance is not being adversely affected. How much RAM do you have ?
Troubleshooting memory issues is often tome consuming, and not necessarily successful. I suppose the bad cases where memory usage on a single site is seen to rapidly increase are the worst for problems, but the easiest to troubleshoot.
You probably skimmed through quickly my report above, because you missed this part: "I also tried it without any plugins running, but the same issue. " -- Meaning I tested it using Safe Mode.
I have plenty of RAM, but the issue is the slow/sluggish performance when Firefox gets to that state. The previous update did not have this issue.
So that makes me think, that this new update caused a malfunction somewhere.
So now I am using Pale Moon, since that browser doesn't have this issue. Hopefully in the next version you fix that, since I prefer Firefox over Pale Moon.
Plugins aren't affected by running Firefox in Safe Mode.
In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:
- all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
- default theme is used (no persona)
- default toolbar layout is used
- xulstore.json is ignored
- userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder in profile folder)
- JavaScript JIT compilers are disabled
- hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
- plugins are not affected
- preferences are not affected

I tested it in Safe Mode and the problem still persists.

Yes so that appears to indicate you did not test with Extensions AND plugins disabled, only with extensions disabled.
It does not appear you are using many plugins the details shown are
- NPWLPG (Photos)
- Shockwave Flash 23.0 r0 (Flash Video)
- 5.1.50901.0 (Silverlight Video)
And you say you are using text only. However it would be worth specifically disabling those three. For instance are your text sites actually providing Video ads. (Your script & ad blocker extensions will be disabled whilst testing in safe mode - and whilst not in safe mode may be part of the problem.)
Also note it is possible; If you so wish; to investigate further and determine exactly what memory is being used by Firefox and what is increasing. Additionally there is a 64bit version of Mozilla Firefox which you could install and test. That may be beneficial if you have spare RAM capacity available on the Windows 7 64bit machine. How much RAM do you have installed ?
Myself on various OS including Windows 7 I do not see an increase in memory use after changing from Fx50.0 to Fx50.1 I do not notice others reporting such problems and probably as the only major change between the earlier version was a small set of security fixes it would not be expected to cause increased memory usage.
Your intent of waiting for a new version to fix the issue is unlikely to work, it is more likely it is some factor in your setup and use of Firefox.
Palemoon will likely continue diverging from Firefox. In future years I wonder how many add-ons will remain compatible and secure with Palemoon. I suppose it depends on the numbers that use Palemoon.

I'm interested. I run Windows 10 on a Lenovo U530 Touch ULTRABOOK, with 8 GB RAM. Do you foresee any problems?
