First of all I was havung a prolblem logging back into my sync account - apparently something to do with FF 50. So i uninstalled it and found a FF 49. Now I can log in to my sync and it says "Firefox will begin snycing momentarily" but it is now the next day (quite a bit longer than momentarily!) and it still hasn't synced.

Can someone please help? I have lost all the bookmarks and settings I need for work and I am not a happy chappy!

Hi

Thank you for your question about the Firefox Sync service.

It appears from your question, that you are using Firefox Sync as a back up service. This is not what Sync is designed to do. The Firefox Sync service takes a copy of the data you wish to include and transfers it to a second device (typically a mobile device such as a tablet or a telephone) running a copy of Firefox. The storage in between all attached devices is both temporary and fragile and is not stable enough to be (and is not designed as) a reliable backup service.

If you have a copy of your Firefox profile for desktop Firefox, you may be able to recover your bookmarks and other data. Please have a read of this article.

If you have a copy of your data on a mobile version of Firefox, please follow these instructions to connect it to Firefox Sync to copy your data.

Firefox 50.0.1 had a fix for Sync not working when Permanent Private Browsing / never save history was enabled.

FF 50.0.1 is what I was running when I had the problem.

I'm not sure I do have a copy of my profile but if my profile contains that kind of information, does there not need to be some kind of warning that that is what is being deleted when the profile is being deleted? All I got was "Are you sure you want to delete?"

That doesn't tell me anything.

FF 50.0.02 still won't connect to sync. Still say "Working..." I thought this had been resolved in 50.0.01?

Sorry you are still having a problem.

If you were running 50.0.1 when this issue cam about, your problem wasn't with Private Browsing / never save history being enabled.

Did you delete your Profile when attempting to get Sync to work? You didn't mention that in your initial posting.

If so, there is no data to "Sync" any longer, unless you were using Sync properly - i.e., with a 2nd device that would have had your data.

But should i not still be able to connect to the sync account? I understand if there is nothing to sync, it will not sync anything but it should still connect to the account, should it not? And if it is saying "Working" constantly instead of actually connecting and working ... Then that says to me that it is NOT working.
