website only displays html code

I'd like to start saying I only have minimal computer diagnostic skill. I have an issue with Mozilla and Chrome that is causing certain websites to only display what my computer friends all say is html. I thought it was a problem with the apache servers but it happens on others as well. Its not my internet connection or router because I've tried it on multiple other routers and the same issue occurs. I've read all kinds of forums and no one seems to have this same particular problem. I also messed with proxy a little with no results. The weird part is that sometimes, just ever so rarely, it works when connected to a hot spot on my iphone..... It appears that it only happens when i'm on a platformed websites, made with square space or another website making company. Websites like google, facebook, netflix, they all work! It's only lower end websites that have trouble. It's also not javascript or the reader or whatever it is called, i'm not sure.
