AFAIK I hadn't changed anything apart from a possible Firefox auto-update when the problem started early this year.

Sometimes running in Safe Mode can remove corrupt files.

That was very good work. Well done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem so others will know.

Sounds like an issue with the computers CPU.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?

With Firefox restarted in Safe Mode the problem is still there.

I tried starting in Safe mode with networking, but this was no use as the printer spooler was not started and it proved not possible to start it under those conditions.

However! - after a subsequent normal restart PrintEdit then worked properly and continues to do so. I have no idea why, but while it does I am accepting it!

It is a bit frustrating not to know the why's and how's, but at least it works!
