Chosen solution

hi, unfortunately this crash may be caused by websense endpoint security software that is running on a device. please make sure that all its components are up-to-date. in case your computer is part of a managed enterprise environment, please get in contact with your it department about this issue again. more information is available in bug 1181091.

in a larger enterprise using the extended support release (esr) version of firefox, which receives security updates but feature updates only once every 10 months, might also be a better option compatibility-wise: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/

Thanks for the answer - I have had a ticket open with our IT dept for a week. Several other users at our enterprise began experiencing the same error today, and we do use websense, so this does seem to be the best answer. Just have to wait to see if IT will fix or not.

Tell the boss it's costing you work time.

hi again, could you try if the build from here works again and addresses the startup crash?: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/candidates/48.0.2-candidates/build1/win32/en-US/

Sorry philipp, I am not authorized to install software onto my corporate pc.

All - I believe the fix in your original response holds the answer. "caused by websense endpoint security software that is running on a device"

Desktop support came round and installed an update of some sort (whether to websense or mozilla, I don't know) but I am running again. He did leave my original shortcut on the desktop and if used, it will still crash. But the newer firefox shortcut works great. Issue solved.
