How Do I Override Extension Verification In Firefox 48?

more options

I updated to Firefox 48 today, even though I KNEW it was going to cause problems, simply because mail.com didn't work in Firefox 42 (which only came out earlier this morning because "rapid release" is a euphemism for "Every build sucks so much, we have to replace it ASAP"), and it broke a bunch of my extensions (including some absolutely necessary ones) due to the fact they were not "verified."

Now, I solved this problem before by disabling extension verification in Firefox 42. It's still disabled, but apparently Mozilla are run by fascist Nazis who have ignored my Facebook comments, hung up on me when I tried to call them, and blocked my phone number. Firefox will do anything in their power to prevent these add-ons from working as they're supposed to. They'll probably even delete this help thread. Mozilla just hates freedom.

So, can somebody please tell me how to re-enable extensions that work just fine but aren't "verified"?

I have attached a screenshot which will rule out the most likely answer. But seeing as how Firefox 48 literally just came out ten seconds ago, and Firefox 49 will be out before I publish this, I really hope someone has figured it out.

I commend anyone who tries to help here, as you are risking getting permabanned by Mozilla. They don't want anyone to know, and have been going out of their way to deliberately and maliciously break solutions that have worked in earlier builds.

Chosen solution

This forum is staffed by volunteers, so spare us the attitude.

You need to switch from Firefox 49 to the Extended Support Release of Firefox 45.

(1) Back up: Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles

(2) Uninstall Firefox 49

(3) Install Firefox 45 ESR: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/ - for broadest plugin compatibility choose "Windows", not "Windows 64-bit"

(4) Return to complain again in mid-2017 if your critical extensions haven't updated by then

If anyone else is curious about what the poster is talking about, you can learn more about this apparently controversial security measure in our article: Add-on signing in Firefox.

Thank you. I'll try that. Is there a smoother way to roll back to a previous build, though?

The real kicker here is that the update to the new version didn't even make mail.com work... :( So, all this frustration was for nothing.

So, if anybody else wants to downdate Firefox, I have great news for you. You can just install the version jscher2000 recommended right over top your existing version, and it will keep all your settings just as they were before.

Of course, your add-ons will have to be re-enabled since their disablement will carry over from the previous build.

Also, I would advise you not to skip the back-up process, even if you skip the uninstall process. Always back-up. Things can still go wrong.

Thanks again, jscher2000.

One final update: Mail.com was neither working on Firefox 42 nor Firefox 48, but it DOES work on this Extended Release build of Firefox 45. So, this wasn't all for naught. The initial problem was solved, as were the new ones created by the update. Thanks again.

Hello to all volunteers doing this excelent job at maintaining firefox safe and free. I have also experienced great frustration when in the lastest version of firefox I just couldn't enable some add-ons that I have generated myself using codefisher's costum button maker. I do not want to revert to ESR version. So, can anybody, please (please!) suggest an alternative. This is what I want do acomplish: I just want a couple of simple button (icons) that when I click it takes me to a website (eg. YouTube Icon when clicked opens youtube, etc) . I don't want an extra bar, like the bookmarks bar, I don't want to push extra buttons like when opening a blank webpage and it shows you the most common sites you've visisted. NO. None of that. Just a simple way to put small, no-text buttons (icons) in the same bar as the URL. I want to shorten the URL bar, and at the right of it I want like 5 or 6 buttons that when clicked take me to the pages I choose. Thank you very much. I am waiting for a suggestion.

Codefisher's Custum Button Generator was a superb tool for this. You opene their interface, chose an URL, chose an icon, then clicked the 'Generate' button and voila. You had an .xpi to download. You installed the .xpi, entered the Customize screen of firefox, then dragged that button wherever you wanted. Then with one click on the icon/button it opened the URL. Now all my cusstom button in .xpi format are useless because they are not signed...of course they're not signed. They were custom generated.

Hi the_adb, rather than submit your homemade extensions for signature, you could consider using a signed extension that can create any number of buttons.

The Custom Buttons extension has a community support site for detailed help, but I haven't tried it myself.
