I have a Macbook Pro running OSX Yoshemite 10.10.5. I have been experiencing an issue only in the Firefox browser that prevents me from logging into Gmail. This has been happening for some time now, and I do not remember if it has from when I installed. This issue is non-existent in other browsers, however I know this is not a problem with cookies, as my cache is clear and my policy is fairly loose. Does anyone know how to fix this issue without reinstalling?

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies.

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache":

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • Rename/remove cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and if present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.
