I am attempting to visit a web page I use all the time www.ixquick.com and www.startpage.com. When I go to either it says "Untrusted Connection"

This Connection is Untrusted

         You have asked Firefox to connect

securely to startpage.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

         Normally, when you try to connect securely,

sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

         What Should I Do?

           If you usually connect to

this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

       startpage.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is not trusted.

(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)

<end>

There is no option as the help page shows to select "I understand the risks" It is not existent. Is there a manual override I can push through in the about:config? The thing I hate most about computers is when something is restricted. This seems to be a forward trend all over. I am using windows 7 and this problem was not existent an hour ago. It is driving me nuts that I cannot bypass it and the help pages are useless misinfo.

Hi there.

I can access startpage.com and ixquick.com fine over HTTPS (Firefox 45.0.1 on Windows 7/HP/64), so there's something odd going on here. What is the issuer listed on the certificate? -- For context:

As I understand it, there were changes made not long ago to the certificate dialogue in Firefox to better protect users and pressure websites to fix their junky certificates. The changes made it harder to bypass broken or expired certificates, as previously all users (adept and inept) would simply bypass everything manually and create unsafe exceptions galore. Inconvenient for those using self-signed or otherwise improvised (or just plain bad; expired, broken chain) certificates, good for the overall reputation and functionality of certification.

I, too, am in the "let the user decide (and bear the consequences)" camp and would like to see improvements in the certificate handling dialogue, but I also see the value in using Firefox's influence to better the way certificates are implemented. It is hard to argue against Exceptions remaining Exceptions and not the rule - otherwise what's the use and benefit of certificates?

Firefox 48.0.1 I lost the ability to access my dynamic dns router connected drives, due to the 'invalid certificate' problem. The certificate is invalid, and the option to 'Add exception' was no longer appearing on the screen. I've managed to get the 'Add exception' option back by changing 'Options > advanced > certificates > query OCSP responders' to off (un-ticked).
