Sorry for any inconvenience caused by this issue. In order to better assist you, can you please explain the issue that you are experiencing in more detail?

By your question details, it sounds like you have lost your Firefox profile during the update. Your Firefox profile contains your user data (ex. bookmarks, history, extensions, etc.).

In some cases, Firefox may accidentally reset that file that points Firefox to your profile. Therefore, when you first open Firefox after the update, it will not be able to locate your profile and will create a new one. If this is the case, your data is most likely still stored in your original profile and it is just a matter of pointing Firefox in the write direction.

In order to determine whether you have a second, unused Firefox profile, please open the folder that contains your profiles. To do this, please type %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ in the Windows run dialog.

In this folder, you should see at least one folder that will contain .default in the folder name. How many folders are located in this location?

For more information about Firefox profiles, please refer to the following Mozilla support article:

Warning: Before doing any repairs to your Firefox profile(s), you should back up your current profiles, in order to prevent data loss. For more information, please refer to Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Hi reedclyd, in a different thread you replied:

I removed all from the machine that had anything to do with mozilla did a reinstall and the same thing I do not not how as there was nothing on the drive to do with mozilla I used the tools to set my home page and it does not go there looks almost the same but is not

Such problems can be caused by external add-ons that Firefox discovers on your system, or by malware. Here's my suggested procedure for tracking down and cleaning up bad add-ons and other hijackers. I know it seems long, but it's really not that bad.

(For Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10; XP is somewhat different)

(1) Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Be suspicious of everything you do not recognize/remember, as malware often uses important or innocent sounding names to discourage you from removing it. Take out as much trash as possible here.

(2) Open Firefox's Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • in the Windows "Run" dialog, type or paste
    firefox.exe "about:addons"

In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions. All extensions are optional; none come with Firefox.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?

(3) You can search for remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.

Do you currently have Firefox 44 installed, or any version of Firefox?

If you have Firefox installed, what is the problem with it, exactly?

For example, if you set your home page to Site #1 and it goes to Site #2, what is the address of the unwanted site?
