How do I change my default printer preferences to "fast/economical, black cartridge only"?

Every time I print I have to reset preferences from current default ("general everyday", etc.) to what I want (see above).

Firefox doesn't save preferences such as "general everyday". Those types of prefs are unique to each printer and not set from within Firefox.

Settings like that are in the printer software, reachable via the Properties button in the 'native print dialog' box - aka the Print window. Consult your owners manual or the printer manufacturer's web site for details about how to change that setting thru the print drivers / software.
