My Firefox apears to be blocking my windows Internet Explorer from opening
When I try to opens Windows Explorer I get 'This page cannot be displayed' the url showing in the address bar is http://firefox

Are you talking about Windows Explorer file manager or Internet Explorer web browser?
How are you opening the application?
Does it help if you set another browser as the default browser?
Try to redo the default browser setting and temporarily set another browser as the default browser.
It is Windows Internet Explorer web browser. I run windows 7 . I was opening it from desktop short cut when this didn't work I tried opening it from Start then Internet explorer icon still get same result ie 'This page cannot be displayed' the url showing in the address bar is http://firefox It looks as if firefox is blocking the start up
