My OS is Windows 8.1. I have the latest version of Mozilla Firefox.

I have updated all plug-ins and disabled any unnecessary ones.

I have performed several full virus scans (Kaspersky Total) - no threats found.

I ran a diagnostics scan through Geek Squad which found....

Graphics RAM low....Possible memory leak - firefox.exe......possible handle leak - avp.exe. Task Manager shows Firefox using anywhere from 300MB to 5000MB of memory.

While browsing, the taskbar at the top seems to flash on and off. When it is off I have limited access.

Mouse and keyboard become momentarily unresponsive (HANGS). All function and control is temporally lost or frozen.
Firefox crashes every session at some point. It displays the message that says "well, this is embarrassing..... ) firefox has to be shutdown or be restarted.

These issues are constant and I do not know what else to do to diagnose, troubleshoot, or fix it.

 I have read many threads, forums and help topics on the issue, but none directly describe the problem nor do they provide a solution.

Please, any help would be a lifesaver. ( I attend online college and this has severely impacted my studies and time) Thank you!

I still have the same problem even after a complete wipe of my hard drive and clean install of windows 10. I installed the latest version of Firefox (44) and it still crashes and hangs.......NOT RESPONDING. This is so frustrating. I have tried every suggestion in all the related forums and nothing works. Is there not an actual "live" customer support team that can address issues? I am trying to attend online college and this problem has presented itself about 3 weeks ago. What happened? it used to work fine. Now it eats up memory and hangs and freezes, over and over. It stops responding for a few seconds and then it works again for a moment before it freezes again. It is putting a serious damper on my work. I guess I'll have to find another browser.

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
