What are the names of the Chrome plugins? I'm assuming those came with some other software; Firefox doesn't include any plugins when you download it.

Firefox should save the plugin status between sessions, but it's possible for programs to set up an override. One particular way is an optional settings file named user.js file. If it exists, Firefox uses the settings in that file at startup to override your saved preferences from the previous session. Unless you created that file yourself, it may contains settings from an add-on or external software. You can check for and remove the file using the steps in this article: How to fix preferences that won't save (there is a specific section on user.js files).

Windows hides the .js extension by default. To work with files as accurately as possible, I suggest showing all extensions. This Microsoft support article has the steps: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wi.../show-hide-file-name-extensions.

Firefox uses the "chrome://" protocol to access its own internal files and also access files from extensions (no relation with Google Chrome).

Note that your System Detail list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts. The user.js file will only be present if you or other software has created this file and normally won't be present.

You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: "Open with"; do not double-click). The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

You can delete the user.js file if you didn't create this file yourself.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Windows hides some file extensions by default. Among them .html and .ini and .js and .txt and you may only see a file name without file extension. You can check the file extension (type) in the properties of the file in Windows Explorer via the right-click context menu.

Hi thank you both for your assistance. Unfortunately it did not solve the problem. I'm very advanced with computers and search hidden files routinely. Also the add-ons say "Google Chrome" not just Chrome. I've tried your suggestions with modifying and saving and even deleting files but each time I open Firefox there these extensions are back.

I did notice that even though the names say Google they have pathways saying Kaspersky. I have a case in at Kaspersky to see if it is a Kaspersky modification like how they modify Microsoft firewall. The Kaspersky functions still work even when I disable the Google ones in a session.

I have pasted the info I have below:

user_pref("plugin.state.npvkplugin", 2);

user_pref("plugin.state.anti_banner_native_proxy", 2);

user_pref("plugin.state.url_advisor", 2);

user_pref("plugin.state.npcontentblocker", 2);

user_pref("plugin.state.nponlinebanking", 2);

user_pref("plugin.state.npcontentblocker", 2);

user_pref("plugin.state.nponlinebanking", 2);

user_pref("plugin.state.npvkplugin", 2);

user_pref("plugin.state.npcontentblocker", 2);

user_pref("plugin.state.nponlinebanking", 2);

user_pref("plugin.state.npcontentblocker", 2);

Setting plugin.state = 2 means Always Activate

I wonder whether these names are just a glitch? Obviously npapi plugins no longer run in Google Chrome...

Yes but unfortunately every time I change value or true/false it just changes back, even deleting every file in Firefox doesn't even render it unusable as soon as I close it and reopen it there all the files are back with apparent default values. I tried completely deleting Firefox out of every where including hidden system 32 files hidden wow32 files hidden system 64 files wow 64 files etc and re downloading the Firefox browser and these Google Chrome files are definitely part of the current Firefox version. Guess their telling us to forget Firefox and use Chrome.

Kaspersky doesn't know anything about it they said this is a new problem but they believe Mozilla is deliberately trying to stop their interface because of numerous complaints they've had with the last several versions of Firefox. So it appears it's Chrome embedding into Kaspersky and not vice versa. If that that is true I'll dump Mozilla forever ! Why use them if their partnering with Google to defeat my protection ???

I think you've gotten bad information from Kaspersky. Those are definitely their plugins. Why they push them into Firefox, I don't know, but I don't need to know. I don't use their products.

Try editing user.js, change each 2 to a 0, save the file and mark it read only. Hopefully then those plugins will stay disabled.

If that doesn't work, I suggest physically deleting them from the C drive. You know their locations from the about:plugins page so you can remove them and see how long it takes for the main Kaspersky program to notice.

Have you considered updating to Kaspersky 2016? According to the user manual, they no longer use plugins in the new version, which would resolve your issue: "Interaction of the application with supported browsers has been improved: now a single extension is used instead of several separate plug-ins."

Thank you again. Yes every time I change value it switches back, I tried deleting they come back. I deleted all pathways then deleted files, they come back.

It may be that I was having computer issues and had to reload OS several times from clean wipes so for the time being until I'm sure all is fixed I am on the trial version of Kaspersky instead of the full which will probably update or I can do it manually to the 2016 when I enter my license key.

The plugins don't seem to interfere with any security I'm just hesitant about duplicate services because one thinks the other is taking care of it and the later thinks the former got it handled and in actuality neither is protecting.

I use to have Zone Alarm because only their vault works the way a vault should but several years back they engineered themselves into only the high end computers with processors of 2.3 gigs and higher so I had to look for a new security. I choose Kaspersky for 3 reasons. 1) Only they and ZA have CD's available for purchase, 2) Their Russian and I figure the best hackers probably know how also to protect best (so far in the last few years they're the ones informing companies and the government they've been hacked). and 3) Their safe money feature and virtual keyboard along with the other features make them a good choice for safe on-line banking.

Guess I'll just see what happens when I upgrade to the latest version.

Thanks, Merry Christmas !

Plugins are not actually installed in Firefox like Extensions and Themes (complete) are but are installed on system and Firefox is giving you the option of using them. This is why you can only Activate/Deactivate Plugins and not Remove.

Firefox does not have anything from the "Google Chrome" browser in it.

It does however have say chrome urls which has existed for decade in Mozilla stuff and six years before Google Chrome browser was first released so it should not be confused with the Google Chrome browser.

Chrome is the set of user interface elements of the application window that are outside the window's content area. Toolbars, menu bars, progress bars, and window title bars are all examples of elements that are typically part of the chrome. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Chrome_Registration https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Tech/XUL/Tutorial/The_Chrome_URL

Hi thanks for responding but if you review previous responses from myself with screen shots you can see the extensions are clearly labeled as Google Chrome not just Chrome. I really would like to know where these files came from because Mozilla doesn't respond, Kaspersky is looking into it while denying they are manipulating any Google files like they do Microsoft Firewall even though the paths show Kaspersky files. My Chrome browser has no files like these: virtual keyboard, etc. And completely deleting ALL traces of Firefox and starting from scratch the files are installed again. They are definitely one of two things. 1) Installed by Mozilla or Kaspersky no matter what those companies say or 2) A new type of malware ! It's the second that scares me because someone my have found a backdoor into either Kaspersky or Firefox.

They're from Kaspersky. Can you pull the full names using my plugin lister page and paste them back here:

No images were posted in this thread.

Your first reply in thread shows Plugins installed on system that were from Kaspersky.

Firefox from Mozilla.org only has the OpenH264 Video Codec plugin and comes with no Extensions. Mozilla certainly has no involvement with those Kaspersky Plugins.

After screaming at Kaspersky for the last 20 mins they finally said it is a "bug". That they have a number of problems interfacing with Firefox and that the new Kaspersky being released in a week or so should have the "bugs" fixed. They said the bug should not interfer with Kaspersky providing security.

Thank you, Greg

James thank you for your help. I finally got Kaspersky to say it is a "bug" with their interface with Firefox and they hope to have all bugs fixed in their new release in January.

Again thank you, Greg
