Firefox Sync gave a new install with default or no settings priority over an established instance

more options

I set up Firefox on a newly setup Windows 10 PC, and activated my established Firefox Sync account on this instance. When I returned to my regular desktop PC, I find Firefox has acquired the settings of the new PC rather than the new PC acquiring the settings of the established PC.

I would have expected the reverse to happen.

While the newer setup PC would have settings with an age "more recent" than the established PC which was set up many months ago, and technically, the most recent date-stamp usually takes priority, in this case, where the settings and the install dates are only minutes apart, the sync direction should at have been queried and confirmed.

Thanks. I have done that via the suggested link. Although, I thought this was the correct place for this sort of thing, given the name "Support Forum".

The almost total lack of user control is one reason why I don't personally use or advocate the current reincarnation of Sync. When it works it's fine, but I've seen too many cases of Sync trouble - my own included - that were the result of unexpected or illogical behaviour.

You should leave feedback through https://input.mozilla.org/en-GB/feedback/, that way it will reach the dev teams better. More user control would have solved many cases/tickets.

Of course we'll try and help - it's just an extra step if you want to leave feedback, and the feedback may not reach devs. The support forum is for providing assistance, I'm afraid the volunteers here can't make changes to Firefox (I'm not sure if any of us are devs).

Of course, and it is appreciated. It's just with a name like "Support Forum", normally you would expect Firefox development to be monitoring here for (potential) bug reports; I wasn't expecting a separate facility called "Product Feedback", which, to me at least, sounds less like support than this forum.

But you did point me in the right direction, so it worked out in the end. As to if anything comes out of it, well, that's another matter.

Thanks Phoxuponyou!

No problem. Hopefully future experiences with Firefox/Sync are more positive ones!
