When are you updating availability of Norton 360 tool bar as it's been 6 days since I upgraded firefox?

more options

I just updated fire fox about 5 days ago, and have checked for enabling Norton's tool bar [I have 360] which is now ID'd as "Incompatable", but it will not allow enabling. When the heck are you guys going to upgrade this new fire fox development? Five days? Really?

It's either you guys, or Norton that needs to get this ball rolling. I need to enable for ease of password entries and data fill-in ASAP

Best regards,

Mike Black

hi, it's always up to an extension's developer to create a compatible product. in this particular case, also refer to Norton Toolbar won't work with Firefox version 41.

It could be weeks, so if you want to use an up-to-date version of Firefox that can still run the current Norton Toolbar, there is another option. You could consider using a different variant of Firefox called the Extended Support Release (ESR) for the time being. ESR is designed for companies that require a longer cycle time between feature changes, but anyone can run it.

ESR currently is based on Firefox 38. It will get security updates over the next several months, but not get new features, so changes in Firefox 41 related to add-on compatibility will not kick in for quite a while.

Norton is likely to continue to support ESR until the new toolbar update. After that, I'm not sure what they will do because normally they only support a small range of versions.

If you decide to try it, here is how I suggest installing it:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 38.3.0esr from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Rename the program folder, either:

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Fx41

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\Fx41

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Success?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that old folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \Fx41\Plugins
  • \Fx41\browser\plugins

Firefox is not made compatible with the thousand of Extensions out there but the other way.

Norton had their toolbar extension liveupdate patches ready for new major Firefox releases within a day usually since Firefox 5.0 to Firefox 40.0

Norton knew about the change that does not allow them to make their toolbar the way they used to for a few months. They even asked Mozilla to delay from Firefox 40.0 to 41.0 for the change but I guess Norton is still behind.

Hello ! With Firefox 42, Toolbar Norton 360 can be installed except Norton Identity Safe.

Hi JeanLev, Norton updated its toolbar this past week. This made some features compatible with Firefox 40-42, but now Identity Safe will no longer work with that toolbar in any version of Firefox. Of course Norton is promising a second update, but no time frame has been given.
