I can't install Flash
I click the "Install" for flash and it downloads "flashplayer19_ga_install.exe (I've done this probably two dozen time or more with the same outcome). I run the .exe file and get a dialog box that tells me "the connection has failed" try again later. It seems Internet Explorer, Chrome and who knows who else has figured this out. I have every reason to believe that Mozilla could fix it also. Right now I'm stuck with using IE.

The two tabs had been added to my startup window choice. I've never seen such a thing. Made me worry the NSA was up to something. I reset my default window and everything is good. Thanks for your help.

If you are using the regular small Flash installer, it needs to connect back to Adobe for additional files. This may be blocked by some security software.
Adobe also makes full installers available that would not have that problem (they might have other problems, but not that one). You can download from the following page -- it's the one for "plugin-based browsers" and either EXE or MSI format should work.

I downloaded the .exe file and installed it, which worked fine. I restarted Firefox as requested BUT, I still get the the two tabs when opening Firefox that says I need to install Flash Player. When I clicked on the "Check Now" button it tells me: Your Flash Version 19.0.0 Your browser name Firefox (NPAPI) Your Operating System (OS) Windows (Windows 8.1)
All of this is correct,
To verify that it's working, you're told to do the following: 5. Verify whether Flash Player is installed
If you see clouds moving in the animation below, congratulations, you have successfully installed Flash Player! (I do)
If you don't see the animation after completing all the steps, refresh this page using the icon below.
I see the animation, so I guess my question is - Why am I still be instructed to install something that seems to already be installed and working? I did check, it is "Always Activate". Am I missing something? Plus private browsing (little purple mask) seems to have gone AWOL.

What are the addresses of those tabs? As far as I know, Firefox doesn't automatically open tabs to install Flash.
Can you make sure they haven't been saved as additional "home tabs"? Check your home page setting, looking for any vertical bar characters that separate the first URL from another one. For example:
https://www.google.com/|https://www.mozilla.org/
You can check on the Options page. See: Startup, home page, tabs, and download settings.
Regarding the purple mask, it should appear on a new private window (Ctrl+Shift+p), but if you have set Firefox to automatic private browsing mode, it is not displayed. See: Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history.
