Firefox either displays a stripped down version of sites or returns sec_error_bad_signature

I'd asked someone to delete cache and instead of doing that through options, I think they just deleted a bunch of Mozilla related folders. I've since done a clean reinstall but something's still missing.

Most sites now turn up with the formatting stripped down to the text and the rest throw that sec_error_bad_signature error. Everything's normal in Chrome.

Firefox displays the url-less home page and new tab page fine, for whatever that's worth.

Thanks for your time

hi, in case you're an avast user please disable https scanning within avast, since it's known to cause various problems:

  1. Open the Avast dashboard on the affected system.
  2. Select Settings from the left sidebar menu.
  3. Switch to Active Protection.
  4. Click on Customize next to Web Shield.
  5. Uncheck the "Enable HTTPS Scanning" option and click ok.

Oh geez, that worked perfectly. Feel silly I skipped over those instructions before, assuming that since I hadn't changed versions, Avast wouldn't mess with the reinstall. Whoops.

Thank you so much!
