Why are dialog boxes appearing at the bottom of the browser window?

Since the last update of Firefox through to 39.0.3 on Mac, whenever I go to preferences or try to install an add-on, the dialog box doesn't overlay the window as in the past, but now appears only at the bottom of the window (see screen shot).

This forces me to drag the window corner up in order to cancel or confirm, which is annoying.

Does anyone know why this is happening, and how I can fix it?

Did you check for issues caused by one of the installed extensions or themes?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Thanks cor-el.

Safe Mode did the trick; it worked as normal there, so that indicated an extension.

Turned out to be Classic Theme Restorer > Advanced > Preferences in Tab > Checked

Unchecking this fixed the problem.
