By the way you keeping backup you can uninstall the firefox and download and install the latest one.

I hav done this several times and still get Ask.com it getting very tiresome. I will try to uninstall and reinstall firefox, but think this is something firefox needs to look at

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

It’s very sad, but many of the software down-loaders / installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well. You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does. Hi rkbrown, uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox probably won't help because the uninstaller normally preserves all your settings.

Here's my suggested procedure for tracking down and cleaning up unwanted add-ons. I know it seems long, but it's not that bad.

(A) Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Be suspicious of everything you do not recognize/remember, as malware often uses important or innocent sounding names to discourage you from removing it. Take out as much trash as possible here.

(B) Open Firefox's Add-ons page using either:

• Ctrl+Shift+a
• "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
• in the Windows "Run" dialog, type or paste
  firefox.exe "about:addons"

In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions. Bear in mind that all extensions are optional, none come with Firefox.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

I have had to go into and uninstall several times final went to my help support with HP and they ran and solved problem. My firefox was being hijacked by adds the home page came on and a second later i would go to and add page. Finally found that the search engine had changed to yahoo. I think that when I downloaded UPS that allowed the search engine to change. My advise after every download check your browser default.

I have apple so all the HP answers do not help. All I did was update firefox and I got this ask thing
