There is no information on the website about finding a phone for a person living in the US. The US is not even in the drop down list and I went to Best Buy and a few other places asking when it might be available and they said they hadn't heard anything. If I can't buy it in the US can I import one and put it on a US plan?

Make sure the carrier supports sim cards and allows smartphones on the network (not a CDMA phone/sim only carrier - that won't work)

It depends on the phone. You can buy the Open C on ebay.

So if I buy it off ebay how do I go about getting it activated on a plan in the US? The phones I looked through the Fx0 looks like the best phone but looks like it is sold in Japan only? Would you even be able to run English on it?

For now the Fx0 is only available in Japan because it doesn't recognize calling frequencies in other countries. I don't know if someone found a workaround for it. So I don't think there is a way to have it in the US

Ok thanks. If I buy the one you mentioned off ebay how do I activate it with a provider in the US? Take it to one of the provider stores or would there be a better way? I just feel they might turn me away.

Mine was able to be used with any provider (Eu Open C, used in France). I suppose it is the same in US. You may want to visit https://firefoxosdevices.org/en/#type:smartphones|coming-devices:no to find all smartphone available
