I reloaded the Free version of Firefox browser about two months ago. Since then EVERY TIME I browse, with just a few exceptions, Firefox displays a message bar across the top of the screen saying " Firefox has prevented this site" with the message there is a check box asking "ALLOW?" When I check the ALLOW most times I get the web page BUT on some occasions Firefox just continues to block the page. The sites and pages I am referring to here are for the most TRUSTED places. This has been happening since I reloaded. It was NOT an issue prior to that. It is VERY annoying and I have since switched to Google Chrome. If you can offer some reasoning or explanation as to why this is happening I will be appreciative. Thank You. mLowe51

If you find a version of Firefox that isn't free, let us know because that likely would be a scam...

It would be helpful to know the rest of that phrase because two things come to mind but I might be missing the one you're actually seeing.

  • Popup windows: Firefox will display an infobar like that when a popup window is blocked. If you don't ever want to block popups, you can turn that feature off in the Options dialog:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Content > Uncheck Block pop-up windows
  • Redirect: Firefox has an accessibility feature that blocks some redirects. You can unblock them in the Options dialog:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General mini-tab > Uncheck Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page

Is either of those the solution?

Note that the setting in "Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

The phrase that I keep getting when trying to download a program from a reputable site is "Firefox prevented this site from asking you to install software on your computer". The "Allow" button is selected and it appears to be downloading. Then I get "Could not be downloaded because of connection failure on ********.com".

Did you try to disable this feature?

See:

  • Firefox > Options/Preferences > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"

Hi IceWolf22, I'm not sure exactly which prompt that is. Are you trying to install a Firefox extension from the site? That usually will generate a small panel that drops down from the address bar, maybe from an icon of a blue puzzle piece. Is that it, or something else?

I'm trying to download an add-on for Firefox browser, from this website, https://www.ghostery.com/en/try-us/download-add-on/. And you are correct the prompt does drop down from a puzzle piece.

After sending this I went into Firefox add-ons and did a search for Ghostery, installed it with no problems.

Hi IceWolf22, that button leads to https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/ghostery which is a direct access to the extension file instead of to the page on the Add-ons site. (See screen shot) So the installation attempt is attributed to ghostery.com.

Not sure that is the most logical approach, but to work around it, you can use the Add-ons site page: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ghostery/

Thanks for the help. I'm surprised at myself because I understand your explanation. I have it installed now and everything looking fine!
