In what folder does FF Android store bookmarks?

more options

I need to get a copy of my FF bookmarks from my Android phone. Where does FF store its bookmark file on an Android device, and what file should I be looking for? I have a file browsing app which allows me to look anywhere on the phone, but I see no folders with obvious names.

I need to do this before uninstalling FF. Every time I start it, it turns the phone into a brick for 3-5 minutes. No other app on the phone causes this problem. It's not related to wi-fi signal strength. I've tried this while sitting right in front of the modem and the signal is perfect. No interference from other nearby networks. Even if I could get sync to work (which I've tried multiple times), I no longer have the patience for the brick routine.

So, I just need to snag a file or two or whatever it takes.

No. I will not use sync, "accounts" or any other method for this mission. I want to know where FF stores its data on my Android phone.

Oh I am sorry, I should have specified. I meant to show you the last response someone made that helped out:

"Detaching the account should not erase any information stored on the local android profile. However making a back up in mobile is also currently not a built in feature. In the past the profile has been located in the folder that is mentioned in this solution: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../950536 "

This might still work and help? But if all else fails, I recomend downloading "Eversync" from the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fvd.eversync . This will allow you to save however many Firefox bookmarks that you would like to an HTML file.

Hope this helps!

Eversync recognized the stock browser's bookmarks, but it doesn't even acknowledge that FF exists on my phone.

I really have to wonder if open source programming is a good thing if it allows a bunch of hacks to design software (Firefox) which can't be backed up USING TRADITIONAL METHODS: See the file(s) you want to back up, copy them to another place. That's how backups are done. End of story.

The FF "team" must have some spectacular drugs.

This has nothing to do with Firefox or drugs.

On Android applications are sandboxed in a way that they are unable to see each others files. You would need root to be able to backup and restore the bookmarks file.

If you have root /data/data/org.mozilla.firefox/files/mozilla/xxxxxxxx.default/browser.db would be the file.

I stand by my statement regarding incompetence.

If the operating system prevents one app (like a file explorer or backup program) from "seeing" another app's files, it's the responsibility of programmers to provide SOME way of exporting data for backup purposes. Firefox can share one link a time if I'm viewing a web page, so it already knows how to speak to the outside world. It should be able to do this for the entire bookmark database, and do it in a format which makes it useful. As it stands now, FF fails this purpose, and that's an absurd oversight.

As far as rooting, that's likely to void a user's warranty, and the vast majority of users would be unable or unwilling to do it anyway.

As computer users, we've known forever that backups were important, but we can't do that with FF mobile. That's simply wrong.

Hi Ancientangler,

You have a valid point in saying that exporting bookmarks as HTML may be a useful feature to have on Firefox Android; either built in or as an addon. You are going too far to suggest people are on drugs or incompetent. Development policy and decisions are not within the scope of this forum you could try polite discussion of this elsewhere

I've already spoken with two people who hire and supervise programmers, and both of them said they'd fire anyone who designed an application which could not be backed up in a way which allows the user to hold the backup media in his or her hand. Thank you for your comment, though.
