I can't see—this error started with firefox for mac v33 but I could drag the error console down to the size of a small status bar at the bottom of the browser window—now when I drag it down, it drags the rest of the window with it so all I can see is a narrow landscape of whatever page I'm browsing at the bottome of the window, & the top of the browser is all white upto the toolbars :S —what's going on? I didn't change any settings over the last several updates, but maybe it's an old setting that didn't jibe with new code?

Chosen solution

You can check for issues caused by an extension.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

I'm lucky I have a 1080p monitor or I wouldn't be able to see at all... I tried it in 720p & then the error console ate the whole window (again, dragging the handle down only dragged a white, blank background above the webpage down with it :(

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

ok, yeah safe mode helped, but I still had to go & pick it out of a haystack... looks like it was FEBE—I disabled that & the problem went away... https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/febe/

thanks everyone

FEBE should not have that effect. Check here,

Firefox Environment Backup Extension Home Page {web link}

I have the same problem. Installed FEBE 8.3rc today on my FF 30. The error console appeared on the bottom half of all my pages. Restarted FF several times and it never went away. Disabled and restarted FF and the console disappeared.

It looks like FEBE's debug mode got turned on. You can turn it off in FEBE Options > Advanced > Miscellaneous > Advanced preferences.
