Every since I have had Firefox (years) when I entered a subject to search, it always used Google, today it started using Yahoo. I want Google back, I didn't change anything.

Hello,

That's strange, only new installs of Firefox should have Yahoo set as the default search engine. If nothing else besides your search bar is different, you can change it by clicking the magnifying glass on your search bar (when you hover your mouse over it, a down triangle should appear), followed by "Change Search Settings".

If your home page or new tab page has also been altered to something you didn't set it to, it could mean that a malicious application/extension was recently installed and modified these settings. Check your add-ons for any suspicious extensions:

  • Tools (or New Fx Menu) > Add-ons > Extensions

Check your list of install programs in Windows - Control Panel > Programs and Features. Usually malware comes bundled with other applications, so if you sort by date and see several applications installed at the same day, it may be easier to find suspicious applications that way.

The Search Reset Tool will also change your home page, new tab page, and search engines back to default and then uninstall itself. Note that the new default search engine is Yahoo, so after using this extension, you will need to change your search bar settings using the steps I described earlier with the magnifying glass.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
