I've tried all the suggestions and went through the lists to try to fix this problem: Run update Reset Safe Mode Turn off hardware acceleration Disable add-ons Default appearance etc.

I tried multiple malware programs, deleted cookies (only threat found). All of this didn't fix the problem, but now I have errors when I restart my computer. Ugh!

If you don't already done it, run a full scan of your system with the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner (both these security tools are free).

Also, try to update your java to latest and see if that helps.

thanks again

Hello, any luck if you toggle the layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled to False in about:config ?

thank you

Thanks for your suggestion. Alas, even after making the change and rebooting, the problem persists.

Leave hardware acceleration enabled when layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled toggle to False. Any luck ?

Thanks again. I enabled the hardware acceleration, toggled it back to false, rebooted as well, and unfortunately the problem still persists. Pages stop loading unless I keep the mouse moving.  :(

What kind of errors do you get when you boot the computer?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

Updated Java, no change.

I downloaded and ran malwarebytes, quarantined some items, and that seems to have fixed the issue! However, now my computer takes forever to boot up and I lost several things in my non-related Explorer browser that I had used for years. Guess that's the trade-off.

Thank you for the fix though!
