Combination of problems started recently (about a month ago I guess), at the same time: 1. Embedded videos won't play (eg. Facebook, CNN). I can hear audio but the picture is black with occasional flickers of the video 2. I'm experiencing a lag when I type. Applies when I'm searching, writing web addresses, and when I'm filling out forms like this one 3. When I type in the search or address box of Firefox I see a blue rectangle where I'm typing.

I uninstalled and re-installed Firefox, no difference. I'm running Windows 7 on a Dell XPS 15Z, 64-bit. Using Avast anti-virus, and Adblocker Plus (I disabled that, didn't make a difference). Can't think of anything that happened at the same time these problems started, eg. I didn't (knowingly) install any new software

Chosen solution

'' 1. Embedded videos won't play (eg. Facebook, CNN). I can hear audio but the picture is black with occasional flickers of the video

There was a feature released that was causing black web pages, however there were updates to block the graphics drivers that were affected. I would first check to make sure that your graphics drivers are up to date. Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL

2. I'm experiencing a lag when I type. Applies when I'm searching, writing web addresses, and when I'm filling out forms like this one

Since there is a lag when you type, I suspect two things: one that the feature that remembers form content is too big or that a script running may be consuming resources on your computer. Please check to make sure all your add ons and plugins are up to date: https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/

3. When I type in the search or address box of Firefox I see a blue rectangle where I'm typing. '

Does this improve after updating the graphics driver or disabling hardware acceleration? If not, please run a virus scan. Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware

Thank you!! I updated the graphics driver and it seems to have solved all three problems at once. Awesome :)
