I accidentally removed a pinned website from my New Tab (start) page. (You can Unpin by clicking the icon in the top left corner of the thumbnail, or Remove by clicking the icon in the top right corner of thumbnail.) My question is, how do I ADD (or more specifically, restore) a website thumbnail? Pulling my hair out over here...

(FYI, the following article doesn't seem to reflect the latest version (32.0.3) or resolve the issue: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-tab-page-show-hide-and-customize-top-sites?esab=a&as=aaq)

FF 32.0.3 on OSX (10.7.5)

Cheers!

Chosen solution

Do you think you visit the site often enough that it should show up on the page based on visit frequency? If so, perhaps it is blocked. The browser.newtabpage.blocked preference looks to be to be completely indecipherable, so you might need to right-click > Reset it to allow all blocked sites to reappear on the page.

How to add a pinned tab to a start page: Set it up the way you want it then in the homepage, set "Use current pages"

That should do it.

Thanks guigs2, but that didn't resolve the issue. Following your instruction resulted in opening a bunch of tabs.

I've attached a screen cap of the page in question that I want to add sites to. I can delete and reorder, but can't figure out how to add (or in my case, re-add the ones I deleted...)

Ah! Sorry I was confused. That page you can tab however I do not know if it remembers from session to session. I will test .

Ok, so I pinned two tiles in a new profile, restarted and the pins were still shown. But if I removed them they were no longer there. I have concluded that its not possible to add specific ones to this page.

but there is a hack: In order to change your Firefox Configuration please do the following steps :

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
  3. Search for browser.newtabpage.pinned and the current tabs will be listed there.

I have not tried this yet and it looks like there is a directory on the services.mozilla.org that adds to this page as well, so I do not know if you add any if they will be overwritten. However there is also not any way of restoring removed ones.

Its possible to add back there, but it does not look like they can be recovered manually. Sorry for the inconvenience :-(.

Changes made manually on the about:newtab page are stored in the browser.newtabpage.pinned and browser.newtabpage.blocked prefs that you can check/modify on the about:config page.

Thanks for the tips and help, guys. Very appreciated. But as guigs2 suspected, I'm not able (or just not having any luck) recovering sites I've accidentally unpinned/removed. Bummer :(

You can also try to drag a tab or history item or bookmark on one of the tiles on the new tab page to pin a specific URL.

Resetting browser.newtabpage.blocked did the trick, and from there I was able to create (drag/drop) a new tile. Thanks for your help, guys! :)
