Why do I have to ask a question in order to register? It seems that this keeps Firefox users from being more involved. I'm just wanting to reply to a question

It used to be a lot easier to get questions answered from Mozilla. I'm guessing that you were getting overwhelmed by the number of questions asked and you just want to curb spurious quesions. In my case, I just wanted to reply to a post about the "Document Expired" message users are getting from the back arrow. So I had to ask a question just in order to do that.

The most typical use case is that users have a question. Registration was moved into the middle of the process because some users couldn't even get started when registration was the first step of the process.

If you start with the Support home page (https://support.mozilla.org/), there is a large "Volunteer for Mozilla Support" button below the product buttons, but if you came in through a Google result or other link, you probably never saw that...

If you want to participate in redesigning and improving the forum, there's a separate forum for that here: https://support.mozilla.org/forums/contributors
