After an upgrade, The NY TIMES site no longer works, no longer accepts my username and password when using FireFox. Additionally the page to change the Password does not display in FireFox, it does display in all my other browsers.

When I first open up FireFox, it shows my user name in the upper right hand corner as it usually does. I click on an article to read and it asks me to log in.

If I close FireFox down and Reopen it, again my user name is in the upper right hand corner and I can go to my account and make changes etc. I go back to the main page, and when I click on an article it asks me to log in.

When I go to log in, I enter my user name and password and I fails. It claims I am using a bad combination of user name or password. However it is correct, because the same user name and password work in Chrome and Safari, I can log in and out.

This is ONLY HAPPENING IN FIREFOX and after I upgraded to 32.02.

It is disappointing that functionality that used to work fire no longer works, and is severely impeding browsing the net. I cannot read the NY TIMES anymore with FireFox.

Emptied Cache, restarted computer. Still no go.

Any Ideas?

Hello trebor97, try to delete the specific cookie.

If clearing the cookie doesn't work then maybe the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted. Try to rename (example as cookies.sqlite.old), or delete the cookies.sqlite file and delete also cookies.sqlite-journal (if exist) in Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies are corrupted.

thank you

Renamed both and even deleted both and no go.

I open FireFox, it shows my name (username) in the upper right hand corner, click on an article and it asks me to log in. I type in the Username and password that works elsewhere and it does not work (claims the user name or password is wrong and does not authenticate me).

How odd that it knows who I am when I first go to the home page, but when I go to read an article it asks to log in as if it does not recognize me.

Deleted cache, cookies etc.

Last week it was not doing this before the upgrade.

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

Well, out of nowhere, without my doing anything today it works fine.

I did nothing, did not delete any files or anything, and this morning it is all working fine. It did not ask me to log in, all articles were available etc.

My guess is NYTimes had an issue they resolved.

Thanks Rob
