I have my homepage set to Google, but after I have closed the browser and come back to open it up another time, it goes tot he previous page I was on. I have checked all my settings and it shows that I have it set up properly, but it refuses to work.

Type about:preferences in the address bar and press enter

Select General.

There are two settings;

  • When Firefox Starts

When the browser is started, what do you want to display. Many of us choose Show My Home Page.

  • Home Page

When a new page is opened, what do you want displayed.

  1. Use Current Page. Use what ever page(s) are open at that time.
  2. Use Bookmark
  3. Restore To Default. about:home shows a Mozilla home page with tools.

You can use any of these that you wish;

about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),

or you can enter any web page or about: page you want.

Yep, this is what I tried. Didn't work.

Google may have put in a program that overrides what you want.

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.

Open your Add-ons Manager <Control><Shift > A and make sure you know what each one is and what it does.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

Also, check the programs that are on your computer

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't know what it is, use a web search.

I don't have any add ons. I went in and deleted them because I thought that might be the problem. I also went in and checked all programs to see if I needed to delete any, but everything looked normal. I am still having the issue. should I uninstall firefox and reinstall to see if this solves the problem?

Do you still have that problem with a new Profile? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles

Do not delete anything - this is just a troubleshooting procedure.

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Note that Windows hides some file extensions by default. Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension. You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer.

I was not able to understand the solution you provided me. I am still having trouble.

Hello ,

Click the menu button new fx menu button then go to Options Click the General section Where it says When Firefox starts make sure "Show my home page" is selected and not "Show my windows and tabs from last time". If this is selected, simply change it.

If this too doesn't help, then copy your Troubleshooting Information here:

1. To get Troubleshooting Information Go to your address bar and type about:support and press enter.

2. A page will open on the page that opens next there is a button which says copy text to clipboard click that button. On clicking that button your Troubleshooting Information will be copied which you can paste here.

Hope it helps.
