Hi. I set up an ActiveSync email account with outlook.com, set it to check for emails every 5 minutes, set it as a default email, and enabled display notifications for new messages.

The problem is that I only get new mail (and sometimes notifications too) for the mail that comes in the Inbox folder. For all other folders (I have a lot of them), I have to manually open the folder in the Mail app, and click Refresh to receive new mail.

Hi, John!

This problem seems to occur sometimes on my device; perhaps this is some problem with the way the phone is communicating with Microsoft's Exchange ActiveSync servers.

For now, though: you can use the phone's IMAP+SMTP capability to handle your Outlook.com mail. You can use it is an excellent alternative to ActiveSync while I attempt to research this issue further.

  1. Launch the Email app
  2. Tap the three-bar menu button in the top left corner
  3. In the bottom-right corner, tap the gear icon
  4. Tap "Add Account"
  5. Tap "Manual setup"
  6. Follow the instructions at Microsoft's website for "Apps that support IMAP and SMTP"

I hope that helps you! Please feel free to post back with more questions.

Hi. Yes I eventually ended up doing that. But the notification problem still exists.

I've set to check for new mail every 5 minutes, but I still get delayed notifications - if at all I get any. This problem also exists in other apps. For instance, I don't get SMS notifications in most cases.

I've started another thread for this though (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1020667?esab=a&s=&r=2&as=s).

This is quite odd indeed; I'm afraid it is some Firefox OS bug but I'm not sure.
