I have reset Firefox. I have just recently been getting a windows security warning about a BTRoot certificate not being valid. Prior to this I have used Google since originally installing Firefox, now when I try a search I get a problem with page loading error. I have firefox on another computer and the same search goes right through. I can also use every other search engine in your library and they work fine as well. Why won't google? Can I fix this by accepting the certificate in windows?

Chosen solution

Followed these steps,but problem still existed. Ended up totally uninstalling Firefox, restored my PC to a restore point prior to initial installation, then reinstalled firefox. Now all is working fine on my old windows XP computer and my Google search is ok. This also eliminated my problem with a BRTRoot issue where I seemingly had a fraudulent site interfering with Google. Thanks for your help.

There could be several things that may cause the problem.

  • Remove the Google search engine. Restart Firefox. Then Reinstall Google.
  • Download the Mozilla Search Reset {web link}

This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.
