I missed the "save password?" prompt the first time I logged in to a site. How do I get it to ask again, or to save the password for that site now??
The first time I logged in to a site which has now become a frequently used one, I skipped past the prompt where it asks if you want it to save the password so as not to have to type it in each time. I would like to use that option but don't know how to get it to prompt me again so that I can answer "yes" this time.

Did you click any of the buttons on that bar at the top?
If you have clicked "Never" then you have created an exception that you need to remove.
If you clicked "Not now" or didn't click anything at all then that bar should appear the next time you log in to that website. You may need to clear the cookies from that website to make that website forget you.
Remove site(s) from the Exceptions:
- Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: Exceptions
Okay, I didn't click on anything the first time around so I think the "cookies" thing is what I need to try. Can you tell me how to do that? Thanks LB
Are you still using the original Firefox 3.6 version (Help > About) ?
If you do then you should update to the latest Firefox 3.6.17 version via Help > Check for Updates.

Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode.

I've accessed and cleared my cookies for a bunch of sites (thanks, I feel lighter already) including the one I'm having the issue with, and then restarted the computer but it still won't ask me if I want to save the password for the site when I sign in again. It's just a gym membership site so it can't be a security issue. Did I miss something?

You can try "Forget about This Site" to remove all remnants of that server. You can find that menu item in the right-click context menu of an history item of a web page. You can use the search bar to locate such an item quickly (type the first letter until you notice the site). You can open the history in the sidebar via Ctrl + H
