Sorry for the tardy reply, but I found your message in "Spam". I've never had anything in that folder before. No, no error message. When I open Thunderbird, the little horizontal bouncing ball next to the Inbox just keeps going back & forth. However, I found if I click on any other folder, the bouncing ball stops & the number of new mails appears. Then, I click on Inbox & read them.

Also, when this latest update came through, I could send a message, but it would not copy to the Sent Folder. It says that it is 100% sent to the Sent folder, but the 100% message would not go away! Checking Webmail, I find the message had really been sent OK. Fortunately, this bug appears to have been fixed after a few days.

So, I'm left with the lame new message retrieval method. Yes, in Settings, the box to check for new mail at start-up is checked.

What is your anti-virus software?

I am using Webroot, which I have been using for years with no changes. Today, my Thunderbird is worse. I can no longer receive any emails, even if I open another folder first. This is a change for the worst. Oddly enough, my: Sent, Spam, Archives, and Templates folders have disappeared. I thought my problems might be with my ISP and it's email handling. However, when I use Webmail, I can send & receive emails through this ISP, and all my folders are present there. I'm stumped!

Try to start Windows 10 in safe mode with networking enabled.

Windows safe mode disables anti-virus software. This is a troubleshooting step, not a solution.

Safe Mode makes no difference. The problem began when I started Thunderbird last week. A message appeared "Thunderbird is installing a few updates & will start shortly" (or something like that). It's been acting up ever since....

Can you post your Troubleshooting Information? At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information. Press the "Copy text to clipboard button" and paste the information into your reply.

I had to delete the last few EGL Angle lies, as the clipboard just exceeded the 10,000 character limit.

Problem located & fixed! My ISP has changed the firm which handles their email accounts, and the new firm had the account addresses wrong. Apparently, they had many customer problems, as their IT Support wasn't accepting phone calls, so I couldn't contact them for help. Finally located another contact number & got things fixed.
