We use Firefox in our small business to deliver web-based apps for visitor sign-in at schools. We specify Firefox ESR primarily because of the Silent Print feature and the fact it is much easier to enable in Firefox than other major browsers.

With the ESR 91 release we began getting reports from customers that our web-app was no printing the name tags to a locally connected label printer. The printer has been checked. Drivers are installed and updated. The target label printer is designated as the default for the Win-PC station.

The config of the Firefox print function has been verified so that it is targeting the right local device and has the relevant print settings correct.

When we run with PRINT.ALWAYS_PRINT_SILENT = TRUE the sign-in process completes and no name tag is printed to the label printer.

When we run with PRINT.ALWAYS_PRINT_SILENT = FALSE the sign-in process completes, the print dialog pops and upon clicking the PRINT button the name tag prints to the label printer.

What's up with the PRINT.ALWAYS_PRINT_SILENT setting? It used to work, when we were running ESR78. Silent printing has been our selling point to run Firefox on hundreds of PC/Win (and Mac) workstations across our customer sites. Without this feature enabled and working, our customers are going to start asking to move back to Chrome or Edge.
