Close Tabs, Cancel (Windows) and Cancel, Close Tabs (Linux)

more options

I use Firefox on two operating systems, and I am wondering if there is a way I can present the "Close Tabs" or "Cancel" options as I close the browser so they are the same from one experience to the other? Or is this hard-coded into the software?

Of course, if I knew enough about compiling source code, I could compile my own version with both versions appearing the same.

But closing Firefox is one of the most-regular activities I find myself doing, at the end of a session. I prefer to have the option to cancel on the table to ensure against mistakenly doing something.

Windows version presents it one way and Linux version is just the opposite. Could maybe there be a CSS approach to changing one so it matches the other on my other computer? Or a JavaScript approach?

Thanks!

"Edit -> Preferences" is the way the old Netscape browser had it way back when I had to steal a winsock file from an AOL floppy disk to make a browser even open, before I had real Internet access, so I liked it when I saw the Linux version carry that tradition. I once used a menu editor add-on to move Options to under Edit, but I could not rename the Options option!

(After I did that on my Windows Firefox, I had a friend using my computer and he was baffled as to where "Options" was hiding!  :) :) I just thought that might make someone chuckle.....

Are you using the Firefox version from the Mozilla server as well on Linux or a version from the repositories?

Note that the startup setting (Show my windows and tabs from last time) has effect on how Firefox behaves.

The way the menu's in Firefox are set are due to the OS Human Interface Guidelines. The Edit>Preferences is due to Gnome HIG and the Firefox > Preferences on Mac OSX is due to Apple HIG for example.

Firefox on Linux did have it as Tools > Options for Firefox 0.8 by accident long ago but was back to Edit > Preferences for the Firefox 0.9 Release. Yes people, Firefox Releases existed before 1.0 ;)

The SeaMonkey suite which is a continuation of the Mozilla suite by a SeaMonkey community has it as Edit >Preferences on all OS's.

I am using the Ubuntu repository in Linux Mint 17.3.

I always start a new session of Firefox. If I want to restore the previous session, I do that from History.

That "Human Interface Guidelines" offers a new piece of knowledge. I wasn't aware of. I first got involved with Firefox on Linux back during Ubuntu 6.06, and since that time I've always seen the sensible "Preferences" in the Edit menu.

But if I can standardize both copies of Firefox in Mint and Windows to be the same just for my convenience, I would appreciate any tips.
