Can't get the email display to expand

I partially collapsed the email display (pulled it up) so I could see a photo in an email better, but now I can't get the email display to enlarge. Usually, I just grab the bottom of the pane and pull it up or down, but I can't do that now. I like Thunderbird, but this is a problem that I hate. I can only see about 4 emails now and sometimes the type runs into the email pane.

You could try closing the message pane (View > Layout). If you enable it again does it return to its present size?
