I'm trying to enter Chinese in my search bar, or (as I just discovered) in Thunderbird. When I try to select the text with the cursor, Firefox and Thunderbird instead erase the text! T-bird just erased an entire email that I'd spent fifteen minutes trying to compose. I'm using iBus in Linux Mint 17.

I've checked other programs to see if this is an OS problem, but it isn't. My text editor doesn't have this problem at all, for example. It seems to be specific to Mozilla-based programs. What can I do?

This will be helpful for Firefox:

As for Thunderbird, try a new question, it might be better answered by a Thunderbird expert in the community.

There is no place for cross-Mozilla problems, yet it is a problem in both Thunderbird and Firefox. Where would be the best place to ask?

Does that add-on back up all text fields, or only forms? The problem occurs in pretty much every place I can enter text -- the program's search bars, website search fields, etc.
