My email attachments are renamed with "Plus signs" instead of spaces. How do I stop this?

For example, my email ! Frozen Fever review was renamed !+Frozen+Fever+review by the time I got it to the other end. I corrected it and sent it back, and when I got it back it had the same plus signs. I absolutely do not want them! Also, it's adding another "doubled" suffix .wpd become .wpd.wpd and .jpg becomes .jpg.jpg Even the program to open them can't read them after they have been doubled

If there is not an option in the Operating System to change this, please check any settings that might have control over downloads.

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

This did not correct the problem. I am still getting the plus signs added to everything I email

Whatever you are using for email is probably adding those pluses - like it doesn't like spaces in file names. You could try using an underscore or a hyphen as a separator rather than a space.

Like using _ or - instead of a space character to separate words.

As far as the doubled file extension suffixes, I have no idea.

That ignores the fact that this worked fine forever, until the Browser updated. As far as I know, my email system (which didn't add anything to my rail names in the 20 years I used it) did not have a similar update.

It must be the website. Some email services replace spaces in file names of files that you upload to them with underscores or plus signs. For example, a file might be named Blah Blah.jpg on your computer, but the same file will change to Blah_Blah.jpg or Blah+Blah.jpg when it is uploaded. About the duplicate "suffix", are you talking about file extensions like the .jpg in sample.jpg? If the email service you're using adds a second extension (e.g. sample.jpg.jpg), the file should still work.
