Why is Firefox blocking my Hotmail log in, and what can I do to correct the situaion?

When I attempt to log in to my Hotmail account, I am directed to a page with the following messages: (this does not happen when I use Internet Explorer) 

   This site may be experiencing a problem
   The site may not be a member of the Windows Live Network
