I installed the latest Firefox update and now Firefox is not responding when I click on the icon. It is hung. What do I do?

I just installed the latest version of Firefox (5.0?) and when I try to run the program (i.e. click on the icon to start Firefox), it starts to open the window and then just stops responding. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox and that does not help. Firefox was running just fine earlier in the evening before I installed the new version. What do I do?
