Server not found, then reload is found

Every time I go to a website, Firefox immediately says "Server not found."

Then when I click "try again" the server is found. It seems like the system is timing out and not giving Firefox enough time to find the website.

Has anyone else experienced this problem constantly?

What can I do to correct this constant problem?

I am using Firefox 4.0.1 on Windows XP

Firefox says my installed plugins are:

  • Octoshape embedded video plugin
  • npdnu
  • npdnupdater2
  • npdivxplayerplugin
  • The QuickTime Plugin allows you to view a wide variety of multimedia content in Web pages. For more information, visit the QuickTime Web site.
  • Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.0.1

Firefox connection settings

If you connect to the Internet through a proxy server that is having connection problems, you will not be able to load websites. To check your Firefox proxy settings:

At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP) and then click Options
   Select the Advanced panel.
   Select the Network tab.
In the Connection section, click Settings....
   Change your proxy settings:
If you don't connect to the Internet through a proxy (or don't know whether you connect through a proxy), select No Proxy.
If you connect to the Internet through a proxy, compare Firefox's settings to another browser's (Such as Internet Explorer. See Microsoft's guide to proxy settings).
   Close the Connection Settings window.
Click OK to close the Options window
