There are several issues with Firefox that have cropped up in the last 2 weeks. Firefox freezes up. I get different error messages about Adobe Flash. Something to do about writing to memory. When I download a program I'm told the program has downloaded but when I try to install it it won't run. I use 2 interactive web sites that have stopped working with Firefox. One is a payroll service that freezes after I enter my security pin. The other is a CAM software site that I can no longer upload files to. The two sites are paychex.com and dptechnology.com. I've tried all the above issues in Internet explorer with out a problem.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Note that using System Restore can cause your Firefox installation to get corrupted because not all files are restored (only files in a white-list), so be cautious with using System Restore.

  • You may lose data in the profile folder like .js and .ini files.
  • You may need to (re)install software that was affected.

Delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling to be sure that all files get updated.

You can find the latest Firefox release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

Make sure that you allow Firefox in your security software.

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

I've tried all suggestions from both replies with no luck. To play with the anti-virus software I will need to get my administrator involved. I'm starting to come to the conclusion that the issue has to do with my computer. I use Firefox at home and everything works correctly. I'll keep everybody informed as to the final out come.
