I lose disk space on my C drive when downloading to F: drive using Firefox

I'm losing space on my C: disk. I have done a number of tests and found that the only time this happens if when I'm using Firefox to download files onto another drive, such as my external F drive. Although the downloaded files appear on my F drive without a problem, for some reason, the space on my C drive goes down at the same time!

You can set the %TMP% and %TEMP% environment variables to a TEMP folder on that F drive.

Control Panel > System > Advanced > Environment variables

Oh, er ok... But does that mean it will always be set to a temp folder on my F drive? What happens if I unplug my F drive sometime?

What I'm asking is, is there a way to change settings so that anytime I download to my F drive then Firefox uses the temp folder on my F drive, but not when I'm downloading to my C or E drive.

What if I simply delete all the tmp files in my C:\documents and settings\??\local settings\temp whenever I'm downloading to my F drive?

I missed the part about the F drive being an external drive. If that F drive is not always connected then it is best to leave the environment variables pointing to the C drive to avoid problems. Firefox usually starts a download to the temp folder and moves the file at a later time to the destination folder. If you have another drive or partition with enough free space then you can use that for the temp location.
