Thunderbird 128.2.0esr (64-bit) Problem opening past emails
As a Thunderbird user and supporter, I have never had this current problem. I have two PC's this one running windows 11 version 128.2.0 (64 bit)and the other running Linux Mint. However the version on Linux is 115.13.0 (64 bit), and does not have the issue. Both pc's have one add-on for google email, calendar, and contacts. to stay in sync. In trouble shooting I have disabled the extension's.
Before the update to 128.2.0 I could scroll back a month and open any email coming to me. However in this version I can only go back 6 days of messages. The 7th day and older will not open. On my Linux Mint system with 115.13.0, I can go back years and open any message.
Is there a new setting that changed all this? I was under the impression all messages were saved to my local drive and not pulled off the Google server. 73's Ed

Try to rebuild the index file of the Inbox folder. Right-click Inbox - Properties - Repair Folder
Note, it isn't best practice to accumulate 9000+ messages in Inbox. Inbox is most susceptible to corruption, particularly due to damage caused by anti-virus software. So move messages out of Inbox to other folder(s), and keep Inbox as tidy as possible.
To avoid problems create an exception in your anti-virus software for the Thunderbird profile folder, so that the anti-virus real-time scanner will not scan it. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_how-to-find-your-profile
In the worst case mail file corruption can cause data loss. Therefore backup your Thunderbird profile on a regular basis. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile

I forgot to add screen shots of the examples..
The 7th day and older will not open.
What exactly does that mean? Please be more specific.
As shown on the screen shots, in day 6, it shows a Preview of the email. In the other screen shot is day 7 email there is NO preview, and if I try to open it, a Blank Tab is all I get, nothing is shown.
Again, this started with the latest update on my windows 11 pc. My Linux pc has not gotten the update, and I am not going to install it.. yet.

Thanks, That did it. I had previous set up archive by year.. and noticed in Local folders there were none after your comment.. heck I never look at local folders, just the good stuff lol.
So set that up again, and the message count is going down. Also after the repair of the inbox, I could pre-view and open any past email message. Now I am down to <2000 for 2024 emails. :-)
