Windows 10 Home.Lots of memory. Here is what the Firefox upgrade to 94.0.1(I believe that's it - can't tell because of loss of tool bar) has done to my laptop: (1) destroyed saved passwords (2) destroyed File History (3) Caused several programs to cease to function (4) destroyed bookmarks (5) destroyed task bar and eliminated all shortcuts (6) because of destruction of File History, made it impossible to do a Microsoft Restore.

This is truly the worst computer experience in my long life. I have tried desperately to tell Firefox NEVER TO UPGRADE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. No luck. I am absolutely sick at heart over the dire situation in which this unwanted upgrade has left me. Is there ANY HELP???????? I'm pretty desperate. Thanks for reading.

P.S. AND NO, I CAN NOT BOOT INTO SAFE MODE. Microsoft now hates me and is unable to install updates; however, life is not that simple. In spite of my telling MS not to update without permission, it continues to try - which fails, which wastes about 2.5 hours.

Sorry to hear about this problem. If I understand correctly:

When you launch Firefox, you cannot use its main toolbar, the one with the menu button. Does it make any difference if you try the F11 key to switch "full screen" view on/off?

More generally:

(1) Have you done a regular shut down and restart of Windows 10 since this problem began?

(2) Have you used "System Restore"? (The Windows system restore feature may overwrite your Firefox data with older data, so it's not recommended to solve Firefox issues unless you can tolerate data loss.)

(3) What are you referring to with "File History"?

Sometimes when the browser thinks there is a problem with the profile, it will create a new one.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? Look inside. Look for the folder with the latest creation date.

thanks very much to both of you for your efforts on my behalf. I have not replied earlier because am effectively shut out of my computer by Microsoft - I suspect Microsoft the root of my Firefox problems.

I have tried DESPERATELY to get Microsoft not to update my computer. It is unfailingly disastrous. I thought I'd finally managed to turn off updates, but MS has outfoxed me (and Firefox? <g>) again. My problems with Windows 10 appear to be shared by legions of desperate users. I now realized that Microsoft has troubleshooters who actually speak thickly-accented English in print - amazing. I can't get any deeper into my Firefox problems until I have managed to get around-over-under-through this dreadful Windows 10 situation.

My laptop came with Windows 8, which I soon came to believe was punishment for all my sins. When MS realized they had a disaster on their hands, they graciously permitted trusting souls like to download, FOR FREE, Windows 10. Windows had the advantage of not being W8, but I soon came to realize that W10 is punishment for sins I haven't even thought yet about committing. It was overpriced at Free. I am about to the point of deciding I'll have to take my machine to a geek to have it fixed. I can't justify a new computer - it's not the computer at fault, it's MS in general and W10 in particular. I am given to understand that Microsoft does not support Windows 7. FABULOUS! HOW CAN I GET HOLD OF IT? LOL. Seriously, fellows, thank you so much for your replies. You may hit delete at any time, but here's what I - and countless others - are dealing with after these outrageous failed updates (that no one seems able to stop.)

Dead start button Dead Windows key Search slot adjacent to Windows key accepts no input Unable to access Settings Unable to access control panel Taskbar disappears Shortcuts disappear Unable to get rid of Edge MS Office has disappeared Screen eventually freezes; unable to do a restart without going through the (always fails) update, takes 27 minutes, after which all of the above listed are again in effect.

Sorry to bore you. Just so frustrated I'm crying on your shoulders. :0)

Oh- the reason "File History" comes into play is that I'd tried to a System Restore. Can't do System Restore without the File History, and MS (failed) update has apparently hidden or deleted the File History.

The way I got online was to go into file explorer and find Firefox.
