Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
To reset the search engines, remove these files in the Firefox profile folder; search.json.mozlz4 (v45+)
New files are created when needed.
Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.
Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.
Can you clarify what you mean with: manually insert search engines
Is that about installing a search engine ?
