'Hi, is this a known issue? Ebay will not render inside my Firefow browser.

Still looks like some parts of the page don't load, tried all the individual line items in 'page info' without success.

Seems to forget that the security was overwritten.

What a coincidence -- your connection is using the same filter as mine.

Does eBay display correctly in Edge and any other browsers on your system -- without having to disregard warnings?

If so, you could switch Firefox over from using its own certificate store to using the Windows system certificate store shared by other browsers. Here is the setting for that:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste enterp and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the security.enterprise_roots.enabled preference to switch the value from false to true

However, if your other browsers have come down with the same issue, you could send your IT this information:

Windows does not have the Cisco Umbrella root certificate installed, so browsers cannot load various pages and resources filtered by the Umbrella Intelligent Proxy with SSL Decryption enabled. More info:

how does it not render? I don't see any bugs for this, and it works on my end, too

Hi irishtoon, could you also mention whether you remember any software changes between the time eBay worked normally and the time it stopped rendering? For example:

  • Firefox updated
  • Windows 10 updated
  • Security software updated

Hi, thanks for taking the time to look at my issue. I literally just installed firefox as I was seeing my laptop under real pressure with Chrome. I don't believe there's been laptop update since and I'm pretty sure it's the same on both my laptop and desktop. Am I alone?

Here's what it looks like for me:

Hi irishtoon, it looks as though the style sheets needed to lay out the page are not loading. They load from a different server, so that might be part of the issue. If you try to display the style sheet directly, do you get the text?

If you get an error message loading any of the style sheets, what does it say?

Hi, so I clicked the first link and I got a full browser window 'potential security issue' message. I clicked - advanced and accepted the choice to continue. I then got a repeat of this message and went through the same process again. At this point I got to a screen full of text/code. At this point I tried to ebay.com and boom there it was.

I don't believe I set any higher security than standard settings but now I can access the site and it renders as intended.

Now I just need to get linkedin videos working, which I'm now convinced must be linked to the same issue that you resolved for me. Any ideas on that one?

Thank you very much for your help on this problem, I never would have found it. Do I need to look at debugger windows or something?

Hi irishtoon, can you look at who issued the suspicious certificate? Here's how:

Open one of the ebaystatic links, then right-click the page and click View Page Info. This should pop up the Page Info dialog. after a moment, a Security icon should appear at the top, so click that, and on that panel, click View Certificate.

That should open a new tab with information on the site certificate.

I am testing a product called Cisco Umbrella, which filters "potentially dangerous" URLs, and in order to do that, generates fake certifies. One of its proxied sites is ebaystatic and the certificate page looks like this:

Since mine doesn't show the true information, I can't tell you what is should say from my own experience, but I've submitted it to a test page and will update this post when I get the results.

According to the test site, the "true" certificate chain should be:

(1) ir.ebaystatic.com [or i.ebayimg.com ]

(2) DigiCert SHA2 Secure Server CA

(3) DigiCert Global Root CA

Here's what it looks like for me:

Hey, Had this problem before, BE SURE your time and date are correct on your computer. It solved my pages loading looking like those.

Now if they get the unresponsive ebay to work with firefox, would be nice.

I am having possibly the same issue on firefox 78, on a Macbook pro

I have the same image the original poster posted when i first open Ebay, but upon scrolling down the page I get enormous arrows and other symbols and a handfull of photos of items for sale making a bar across the screen.

None of the suggestions I have seen above have helped. But I am on a Mac running an old old version of the OS (10.9.5)

any help or sugestions would be so much appreciated. Had no issues till I updated, firefox

Hi christotheb, this could indicate that the style sheets which instruct Firefox on laying out the page are not being loaded.

Have you noticed any secure connection errors in Firefox recently?

Here's an example of the addresses used for style sheets -- they are on a different eBay server:

https://ir.ebaystatic.com/rs/v/kw2xglkz02zqnovh0gatbvmpsmn.css?proc=DU:N

Can your Firefox load that directly? The expected content is a wall of text starting with

body .shpt{top:24px}#gh{*z-index:3}.gh-clearfix:after{content:".";display:block;

If the page can load directly, could you do a reload of the main eBay page bypassing the cache -- either

  • Shift+click the reload button
  • Command+Shift+r
  • Command+F5

Any improvement?

If the page cannot load directly, is there an error message?

hello, I get the same sort of big arrows christotheb has captured. I am using an iMac, 10.15.6 what happened was, I just clicked on the Firefox icon in the dock, to open it as usual. before I had time to see what was happening I had 2 Firefox icons, and Firefox asking me to close one. I binned one, and an upgrade started without notice; I now have version 79, and immediately this inability to display ebay started. previously, there was no problem. I visited, for example a local newspaper, this one is now displaying as usual. ebay is displaid normally when using Safari, be it buying or selling.

hello jscher2000

I clicked on your ebaystatic link and obtained the expected wall. I then went directly to ebay and it was displaying ok, and working. The problem has stopped for now !...

thanks

Hey, @jscher2000, now you get to troubleshoot the same problem for Linux!

EDIT: After following all the suggestions made in this thread with no success, ebay somehow now loads and renders correctly. I strongly suspect the problem wasn't with Firefox at all.

If you having issues with ebay not loading, try turning off enhanced privacy protection for the site.
